Setting up Drupal on AWS Lightsail was a much smoother process than I expected. Outside of researching a few specific CLI commands, the baseline environment setup was simple to execute
Progress Breakdown
- Provisioned an AWS Lightsail instance to build a cloud web host from scratch
- Attached a permanent static IP
- Deployed the initial Drupal site environment.
- Configured custom domain DNS records to point to the static IP, creating a public endpoint
- Retrieved the initial Drupal admin credentials via SSH -
cat $HOME/bitnami_application_password - Provisioned Let's Encrypt SSL certificates via SSH using Bitnami's tool: -
sudo /opt/bitnami/bncert-tool - Created an AWS Lightsail system snapshot
- Enabled Drupal maintenance mode prior to updating to version 11.4.4 -
drush state:set system.maintenance_mode 1 - Rebuilt the Drupal site cache: -
sudo -u daemon drush cache:rebuild - Updated Drupal core along with all dependencies via Composer: -
sudo composer update "drupal/core-*" --with-all-dependencies - Executed pending database schema updates -
sudo -u daemon drush updatedb - Disabled Maintenance mode -
sudo -u daemon drush state:set system.maintenance_mode 0 - Performed a final cache rebuild
